Mesa County Fantasy Faire 2026 will take place September 4–6 at Sweet River Outdoor Event Venue in Grand Junction, Colorado. The inaugural three-day festival will combine fantasy storytelling, medieval combat demonstrations, pirates, Vikings, LARP activities, cosplay, fire performances, live music, artisan merchants, interactive quests, workshops and family programming along the riverfront grounds.

Each day has its own theme, beginning with a family and cosplay-focused Friday, followed by a combat-heavy Saturday and a ceremonial closing day on Sunday. Visitors planning other historical and fantasy events in the state can also explore Renaissance and medieval festivals in Colorado.

The three-day program is organized around a different concept each day:

🧚 The Realm Awakens with Cosplay & Kid’s Day

Friday opens the faire with a strong focus on families, younger visitors and cosplay.

Costumed guilds, fantasy characters, heroes and magical beings will move throughout the grounds, while children can participate in age-specific storytelling and roleplaying activities.

The program includes both safe introductory combat activities and more serious demonstrations by experienced historical martial groups.

Phoenix Rise Foam Combat

The Phoenix Rise Amtgard guild will offer hands-on foam-weapon activities for visitors of different ages.

These are controlled demonstrations rather than full competitive tournaments, giving guests an opportunity to participate safely.

Shire of Draca Mor

The Society for Creative Anachronism’s Shire of Draca Mor will present armored combat demonstrations featuring full-contact medieval-style fighting.

Unlike the foam activities, these demonstrations are performed by trained participants and are intended for spectators rather than public participation.

🏹 Throws for Valor

One of the faire’s featured charitable activities is Throws for Valor, operated in partnership with Gracie Jiu Jitsu Grand Junction.

Visitors can try knife and axe throwing at the Marksman’s Meadow Target Pit, with 100% of proceeds donated to the Veterans Art Center in Grand Junction.

The faire takes place at Sweet River Outdoor Event Venue, a riverside property in the Orchard Mesa area of Grand Junction.

The outdoor site combines open spaces, natural terrain, grass and dirt pathways, providing enough room for merchant areas, guild encampments, stages, combat demonstrations and camping.

Because the property remains largely natural rather than paved, guests should expect:

📍 Grand Junction, Colorado

Grand Junction is the principal urban center of western Colorado and the county seat of Mesa County. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated its population at approximately 71,827 residents in 2025.

The city stands near the meeting of the Colorado and Gunnison rivers, a geographic feature that helped give the settlement its name.

Grand Junction was founded in 1881, when George A. Crawford and other early developers established a townsite in the Grand Valley. It became the Mesa County seat in 1882 and was formally incorporated later that year.

Agriculture developed rapidly once irrigation canals brought reliable water to the valley. Fruit growing became particularly important, while railroad connections helped move crops and other goods across the region.

During the twentieth century, uranium exploration and later energy development brought additional periods of economic growth.
