Mission Renaissance Faire 2026

Mission Renaissance Faire 2026 will take place September 18–20 at Fraser River Heritage Park in Mission, British Columbia, Canada. Organized by the Mission Arts Council, the three-day event combines Renaissance and medieval-inspired entertainment with fantasy characters, live music, theatrical performances, combat demonstrations, an artisan marketplace, food vendors and interactive activities for families.

Participants decorate an oversized vanilla sugar cookie with cherry filling, cream-cheese-flavoured filling, vanilla buttercream and graham wafer crumbs. Materials and guided instruction are included.

A colourful fantasy-themed cookie decorating activity supplied with prepared ingredients, piping bags and decorating materials.

A fresh floral crown workshop with a choice of flowers, greenery, mushrooms, ribbons, gems, feathers and other decorations. Participants can also spend time with ponies and take photographs with assistance from the 4-H team. Proceeds benefit the Behind the Bit 4-H club.

Floral designer Lexi Richards leads participants through the process of making a traditional hand-tied bouquet using fresh seasonal blooms. Tools, materials and flowers are supplied, and the completed bouquet is wrapped for transport.

🏰 Fraser River Heritage Park

Fraser River Heritage Park is Mission’s largest municipal park and provides open lawns, mature trees, paved and walking trails, picnic areas, playgrounds and viewpoints across the Fraser River Valley toward Mount Baker. Its open spaces also make it one of the city’s principal locations for community events.

The location also has considerable historical importance. The grounds occupy the former site of St. Mary’s Residential School, which operated from 1867 until 1961. Surviving landscape features connected to the site’s past include archaeological foundations, an old orchard, heritage plantings and a reconstructed grotto. The City of Mission recognizes the property for its historical, cultural and spiritual significance.

👗 Costumes and Prop Weapons

Costumes are strongly encouraged, and the faire welcomes a wide range of Renaissance, medieval, pirate and fantasy interpretations. Clothing and conduct should remain appropriate for a family event.

The published weapon rules distinguish between costume props and real weapons:

• Foam and plastic costume weapons are generally permitted.
• Realistic prop weapons must remain sheathed and peace-tied so they cannot be readily drawn.
• Real weapons are not permitted, including when peace-tied.

These rules are intended to allow costume accessories while maintaining safety throughout the festival grounds.

Parking arrangements differ between Friday and the weekend.

Friday:

• Friday parking is limited to the main park area and surrounding permitted neighbourhood parking.

Saturday and Sunday:

• Main event parking is limited and requires a prepaid weekend parking pass.
• Mission Raceway Park, 32670 Dyke Rd.: C$5, including faire shuttle service.
• The shuttle can accommodate collapsible strollers.
• A wheelchair-accessible shuttle is planned.
• Pekw’xe:yles, 34110 Lougheed Hwy.: C$5, subject to availability.
• Heritage Park Middle School / Clarke Theatre can be used for parking followed by a short walk.
• Mission City Station Park & Ride is another option.

Visitors using Mission City Station can take local Route 34 toward the Heritage Park area before completing the journey on foot. Organizers recommend allowing additional travel time on busy festival days.

📍 About Mission, British Columbia

Mission lies on the north bank of the Fraser River in southwestern British Columbia, approximately 70 kilometres east of Vancouver. The community occupies part of the Fraser Valley at the transition between the Lower Mainland and the Coast Mountains.

The area has been home to Stó:lō peoples since long before European settlement. The Municipality of Mission was established in 1892, while the separate urban community later developed as Mission City. The town and surrounding district were amalgamated in 1969, eventually forming the present municipality. The name is linked to St. Mary’s Mission, established in the area during the nineteenth century.

The 2021 Census recorded 41,519 residents in the municipality, an increase of 7.7% from 2016. More recent municipal information describes Mission as a growing community with more than 42,000 residents.

🚗 Getting to Mission

By Road

Mission is connected to the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley by two major provincial highways.

From Vancouver and the western Lower Mainland: Highway 7, also known as the Lougheed Highway, provides the principal approach along the north side of the Fraser River.

From Abbotsford and communities south of the Fraser: Highway 11 crosses the Mission Bridge and connects directly with the city.

Highways 7 and 11 form the principal provincial road connections serving Mission.

🚆 By Train

Mission City Station is the eastern terminus of the West Coast Express, providing commuter rail connections with Maple Ridge, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, Port Moody and downtown Vancouver.

Because the West Coast Express is primarily a weekday commuter service, visitors attending the Saturday or Sunday sessions should confirm whether rail service fits their travel date and use bus or road alternatives when necessary.
